Brain Awareness Week... Salt Lake City

Fox 13 News coverage of Brain Awareness Week 2011

Danielle Friend, the BAW 2011 Organizing Committee Chair, led a team of dedicated volunteers to teach kids at area schools including West High School, Salt Lake Center for Science Education, and Guadalupe School. The BAW event at the Salt Lake City Main Library this past Saturday was also a huge success. Over 1,500 students along the Wasatch Front tuned into lessons about brain health, and some were even turned on to careers in neuroscience.

The Brain Awareness Week program is highly valued in our community; see brain.utah.edu for more information about the program. The Brain Institute thanks Danielle, the organizing committee, the volunteers who presented at the many BAW events last week, and the neuroscience faculty mentors who encouraged their students to be involved in BAW. (Program in Neuroscience faculty, don't forget to request your BAW 2011 T-shirt!)

Neuroscience outreach education is important to the Brain Institute year-round. And for local neuroscientists and clinicians who want to take their expertise into area classrooms or other public forums any time of the year, the Brain Institute's Lending Library is an excellent and growing resource; see brain.utah.edu/lendinglibrary.

Mark your calendars now for Brain Awareness Week 2012: March 12 - 18, 2012.
