RESEARCH:
Neurobiology of Tourette Syndrome, OCD and ADHD
Dr. Lyon is currently conducting research related to the genetics, pathophysiology, and treatment of Tourette Syndrome, OCD and ADHD. He is also interested in the genetic basis of developmental disabilities such as autism and mental retardation. Research participants are being actively recruited for the above studies, and the people to contact for these studies are Jubel Morgan at office phone 801-587-3775, cell phone 801-678-5634 or email Jubel.Morgan@hsc.utah.edu, or Jennifer Holbrook at 801-585-1212.
Dr. Lyon completed his undergraduate education at Dartmouth College, where he studied biochemistry and molecular biology. He received an M.Phil. in genetics from the University of Cambridge, England and a Ph.D. in pharmacology and peptide chemistry at Rockefeller University. He received his M.D. from Weill Cornell Medical College, followed by adult psychiatry training at the New York State Psychiatric Institute/New York Presbyterian Hospital - Columbia. It was during residency that he became interested in the genetic and pathophysiological basis of many neuropsychiatric disorders, including attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), Tourette Syndrome (TS), schizophrenia and autism. Dr. Lyon subsequently undertook child and adolescent residency at the NYU Child Study Center, during which time he became interested in clinical trials and treatment development for TS, OCD and ADHD. He trained with Dr. Barbara Coffey at NYU, an internationally-recognized specialist in Tourette Syndrome.
Dr. Lyon is currently a member of Phi Beta Kappa, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, the American Psychiatric Association, the American Neuropsychiatric Association, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He has published in the areas of clinical trials, biochemistry, pharmacology, and molecular biology.
